WHAT IS A TEMPORARY ORDER OF PROTECTION?

Temporary Order of Protection is issued by a District Court judge, without the need to hold a hearing, based solely on the information contained in the Petition for Order of Protection from Domestic Abuse that is filed by a petitioner.  It is a temporary court order issued by a District Court judge that sets boundaries that the respondent must obey until a hearing is held at a later date.
